8th Subscription Concerts with Tugan Sokhiev

After the 8th Subscription Concerts had to be postponed on short notice due to illness, they will now take place under the baton of Tugan Sokhiev on June 1/2, 2013. Tugan Sokhiev is Music Director of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and became Music Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin at the start of the 2012/13 season. He enjoys a close association with the Mariinsky Theatre and is in demand from leading opera houses and orchestras worldwide. In the upcoming concerts, Heinz Koll and Ernst Ottensamer are the Philharmonic soloists in Max Bruch's Double Concerto for Clarinet and Viola.
Vienna Festival Concerts with Sakari Oramo

After conducting three concerts on tour with the Vienna Philharmonic on short notice in February 2012, the Finnish conductor Sakari Oramo makes his Viennese debut with the Philharmonic in two Vienna Festival Week concerts in May 2013. Sakari Oramo is Chief Conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Chief Conductor Designate of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. This season he has also become Honorary Conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The program features two compositions by Witold Lutoslawski and Per Nørgård which have not previously been performed by the Vienna Philharmonic. In addition, Hillary Hahn is the soloist in Sibelius' Violin Concerto.
Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn with Lorin Maazel

The Vienna Philharmonic cordially invites all Viennese as well as visitors to the city to its annual open air concert event, the Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn on May 30, 2013. Schönbrunn Palace and its beautiful baroque gardens, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, provide the unique backdrop for this musical gift. Under the baton of Lorin Maazel, the Philharmonic performs compositions by Giuseppi Verdi und Richard Wagner, whose bicentennials the music world celebrates this year. This concert will also be broadcast on television live or time-delayed in numerous countries throughout the world. Admission for this concert, which in only a few years has become a Viennese tradition attracting up to 100,000 visitors, is free.
Season Finale with Berlioz' Symphonie fantastique

The last performances of the Vienna Philharmonic concert season take place on June 7th in the Vienna Musikverein and June 9th in the Konzerthaus. Under the baton of Tugan Sokhiev, the dramatic episodes from the life of an extraordinary artist will be heard in the form of the Symphonie fantastique by Hector Berlioz. On the same program the two Philharmonic soloists Volkhart Steude und Peter Somodari will be heard in the Concerto for Violin and Violoncello by Johannes Brahms.
