Concert Series with Lorin Maazel

In May 1962, Lorin Maazel conducted a concert of the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time. Since that time, through numerous subscription concerts, New Year's Concerts, tours and recordings, Maazel has established himself as one of the most prominent conductors in Philharmonic history. In February/March 2010, Maazel, who has been named Honorary Member of the Vienna Philharmonic, leads the orchestra in concerts in Vienna and on tour to several European cities and Abu Dhabi. The programs will feature works by Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel, Bruckner, Sibelius and Stravinsky, as well as two of Maazel's own compositions.

Pierre Boulez Conducts Music of the 20th Century

The conductor and composer Pierre Boulez, a key figure in the music of the 20th Century and an Honorary Member of the Vienna Philharmonic, conducts six concerts of the orchestra in March 2010. These include a concert for the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna, the 7th Subscription Concerts, the 3rd Soirée, the opening concert of the Vienna OsterKlang Festival and a concert in Linz. The programs feature compositions by Karel Szymanowski, Claude Debussy, Pierre Boulez, Igor Stravinsky und Leoš Janáček. On March 26th, the day of the 3rd Soirée of the 2009/2010 season, Pierre Boulez celebrates his 85th birthday.

Drawing for Tickets for the New Year's Concert 2011

The registration period for participation in the drawing of tickets for the end of year concerts 2010/2011 has now ended, and no more registrations can be accepted. The drawing will be held within the next weeks and all participants will be informed of the results in March 2010. Registrations for the drawing of tickets for the end of year concerts 2011/2012 will begin on this website on January 2, 2011.

Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert 2010 with Georges Prêtre

The Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert 2010 will be conducted for the second time by the French conductor Georges Prêtre. For the past 47 years Georges Prêtre has conducted regularly in Vienna, and his work with the Vienna Philharmonic has encompassed this same time period. Due to the television and radio broadcasts in more than 70 countries, the New Year's Concert is in terms of its international coverage the largest classical music event in the world.

Registration for Music Camps in Salzburg 2010

The Vienna Philharmonic and the Salzburg Festival will once again present music camps for children and young people between the ages of 7 and 16 in the summer of 2010. Together with a team of music educators, dancers and applied artists, the young participants will occupy themselves with operas which are being performed at the Salzburg Festival. Visits to rehearsals and the opportunity to have a look behind the scenes are highlights of the week-long camps. On the last day of each camp, the participants are joined by members of the Vienna Philharmonic to present the musical, theatrical and artistic results of their endeavors.
