The Vienna Philharmonic supports the social project of the Peruvian Tenor Juan Diego Flórez, SINFONÍA POR EL PERÚ, which has as its goal the education of young musical talents from predominantly low income families as instrumentalists and singers. SINFONÍA POR EL PERÚ already supports children between the ages of five and eleven in 14 different regions of Peru and offers them a promising future. For the beginning of their collaboration, the Vienna Philharmonic has selected instruments with a value of € 30,000 and sent them to Peru. Additional projects with the Vienna Philharmonic are planned for the future.
On the occasion of the presentation of the instruments a press conference was held at the residence of the Austrian Embassy in Lima. Philharmonic Vice-Chairman Alexander Steinberger sent a video message to Lima. Plácido Domingo also sent a video message and Juan Diego Flórez took part through a live feed.
The musical entertainment was provided by the Children's Orchestra of Miraflores und La Victoria which performed "Ode to Joy" and "Fanfare Minuet". The Youth Orchestra performed the " Divertimento in D major" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Peruvian composition " Vilcanota" by Armando Guevara Ochoa.
