Concert in Ljubljana

On January 31, 2008, the Vienna Philharmonic interrupted its stay in Salzburg to make a guest appearance upon the initiative of the Austrian Ambassador in Slovenia, Dr. Valentin Inzko in Ljubljana. The concert took place was under the auspices of Austrian President Dr. Heinz Fischer and Slovenian President Dr. Danilo Türk, who was present at the concert along with Prime Minister Janez Jansa and many members of the Slovenian government. The concert constituted an Austrian salute to the current Slovenian EU-Presidency. Iván Fischer once again conducted Mozart's Symphony in C-Major, KV 338, and Bartók's "Concerto for Orchestra".  Between these two works, mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink, who was born to Slovenian parents in Buenos Aires and who has appeared often with our orchestra, sang three works from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: the concert aria "Vado, ma dove? - oh Dei!", KV 583; "Il tenero momento", the Cecilio's aria from "Lucio Silla", KV 135, and "Parto, parto, ma tu ben mio", Sesto's aria from "La clemenza di Tito", KV 621 (Bass Clarinet: Ernst Ottensamer). The concert concluded with two works by Johann Strauss (son): the "Annen-Polka", op. 117, and the "Banditen Galopp", op. 378, which were performed as encores.
