For several weeks more than 60 children and teenagers from the grade school and high school of Sacre Coeur in Pressbaum have been studying the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms. With nearly their entire lives still before them, these young people are contemplating the personal meaning of such concepts as transition, mourning, leave taking, consolation, hope and joy. The music and texts found in the composition serve as inspiration for film sequences and interviews which were conducted in a retirement home and kindergarten, as well as for poetry, sculptures, photographs, and even an acrobatic performance and a choreographed light show. Assisted by musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic, these varied means of expression have been fused into a musical collage which will be presented to an interested audience following the matinee on Sunday, December 9, at 12:45 P.M. in the Glass Hall of the Musikverein.
Time and Place: Sunday, December 9, 2007, in the Glass Hall of the Musikverein, following the subscription concert of the Vienna Philharmonic with Nikolaus Harnoncourt.Admission is free. Tickets will be available in the foyer of the Musikverein before the performance.
