Vienna Philharmonic Ball 2011

On January 20, 2011, the 70th Annual Vienna Philharmonic Ball took place in the Musikverein, with dancing and celebrations going on in all halls of the venerated building until five in the morning. For the first time, the ball transpired under the auspices of the new ball committee comprised of Rotraut Konrad, Kammersängerin Marjana Lipovsek, Opera Director Dominique Meyer and Dr. Hannes Androsch. Philharmonic first violinist Andreas Grossbauer and his team were responsible for the organization of the ball. Danielle Gatti, principal conductor of the Orchestre National de France and the Zurich Opera, conducted the opening of the ball for the first time, treating 3,600 ball guests to a performance of the waltz "Künstlerleben" by Johann Strauss.

As another first, the ball's opening committee, consisting of 96 young couples, danced to Johann Strauss "Tik-Tak" Polka and "Du und Du" Waltz under the direction of Prof. Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer.

The rest of the ball's musical entertainment also generated great enthusiasm. In addition to the dance music in the Golden Hall which was provided by the Helmut Steubl Orchestra and the Tom Henkes Dance Band, several other ensembles, including the Rudi Wilfer Trio, "The Philharmonics" with their classic-crossover, the Dietmar Küblböck Jazztett with Benjamin Schmid, Hans Hindler & seine fidelen Oberkrainer, pianist Robert Werner, as well as diverse Philharmonic ensembles led by Christoph Gigler, Matthias Schorn and Lars Michael Stransky, performed in various halls of the Musikverein, contributing greatly to the ball's festivities.

The donation of the guests of honor was dedicated to the organization CONCORDIA, Social Projects of Father Georg Sporschill SJ.

The 71st annual ball of the Vienna Philharmonic will be held on January 19, 2012.
