Information on the Vienna Philharmonic Subscription Concerts

Since 1860, the Vienna Philharmonic Subscription Concerts have formed the basis of the orchestra's musical endeavors and have become an indispensable component of Viennese musical life. As a result, the demand for subscriptions is great and the waiting list is long. We explain to you here the procedure for obtaining a subscription to the Saturday, Sunday or Soirée series.

  • Application for Philharmonic Subscription Concerts

To apply for our subscription series, we request the submission of a written letter on paper in the spring (March – May) of each year. This request should provide us with your full name, address, and contact information such as telephone number and e-mail address. In addition to this information, please provide us with precise information about your request, specifying which of the subscription concert series (Saturday, Sunday, or Soréen) you wish to obtain; the price category that would best suit you; and whether you wish to reserve a ticket for one or two persons. Please note that subscriptions are non-transferable.

We ask for your understanding that such a request submitted on behalf of other persons, or for minors, cannot be placed on the waiting list and can be grounds for removal from this list.

  • Available Subscriptions

Subscriptions which come available are returned to the Vienna Philharmonic and then allotted to those who have been on the waiting list the longest. Philharmonic Subscriptions CANNOT be passed on to a third party or bequeathed to any other persons.

  • Allocation

Every year in the fall, the submitted subscription requests are answered, regrettably often with the information that no subscription is currently available. Upon receiving such a notice of non-availability, however, you may indicate your continued interest in obtaining a subscription by renewing your request in the following spring, and in this manner keep your former application active. This secures your present position in the waiting list and negates the possibility of your being moved backward on the list.

  • Special Requests

Since new subscriptions are allotted based only on availability and because existing active subscriptions cannot be altered, we ask for your understanding that requests for particular categories cannot always be immediately honored.

  • Standing Room Subscriptions

Standing room subscriptions for each season are generally available at the beginning of the season. The sell of Standing room subscriptions for 2024/25 starts on September 16th, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Standing room subscriptions can be purchased exclusively in our ticket office.

Ticket Information for Additional Vienna Philharmonic Concerts in Vienna and on Tour

Although the waiting line for subscription concerts appears very long, there are numerous other possibilities to experience the orchestra first-hand in Vienna, in Austria, within Europe and around the world. The Vienna Philharmonic performs many concerts in Vienna for the Society of Friends of Music, for the Vienna Festival Weeks and on other occasions. Every year the orchestra can be heard at the Salzburg Mozart Week as well as at the Salzburg Festival. In addition, the orchestra makes concert appearances in the most outstanding concert halls in Europe and abroad, including annual concert series in Japan and New York.

Information regarding all Vienna Philharmonic concerts, both domestic and abroad, can be found on this website. However, because the majority of these concerts are presented by other organizations, these tickets are not sold over our website. Instead, you will find on the detail page for each concert a link to the information page of the particular concert presenter, assuming that this information is available to us.

The Vienna State Opera should certainly also be mentioned in this context. Every year the musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic perform here on nearly 300 evenings in their capacity as the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Ticket information for all performances at the Vienna State Opera can be found here.

Tickets for the New Year's Concert

Due to extremely high demand, tickets for the three traditional end of year concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic are drawn by lot over the Vienna Philharmonic website at the beginning of each year. Detailed information about participation in the drawing can be found here. We have also published Frequently Asked Questions for more information. The only way to obtain tickets for these concerts is by taking part in the online drawing!

Please note

The enormous demand exceeds the supply of tickets, which means that we will have to send out many rejections in March in addition to the winning notifications. Even though we understand the disappointment, we would still like to advise strongly against buying concert tickets on ticket platforms or secondary market exchanges at highly inflated prices. We cannot assess the seriousness of these offers.

The Summer Night Concert in Schönbrunn

Every year the Vienna Philharmonic presents an open-air concert in the unique ambiance of the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens in Vienna. All Viennese and visitors to the city are invited to this event, which is open to the public free of charge. There are no tickets to be procured or reservations to be obtained for this concert. All pertinent information regarding this event can be found on the Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn pages.

Vienna Philharmonic Ticket & Ball Office

During the drawing of tickets, we urge you not to call us or mail us with questions regarding the drawing. Please use the Frequently Asked Questions. Thank You!
