Kirill Kobantschenko was born in June 1978 in Odessa (Ukraine) into a family of musicians. His mother, a classical pianist, and his father, a jazz musician, provided him with a musically diverse childhood. These numerous diverse influences led to an early enthusiasm for electric bass and drums, yet at the age of five he also began violin lessons at a music school for children, moving a short time later to his first violin teacher, Alexander Pavlov.
Two years later he began his education at the Stoljarski School in Odessa, finishing there in 1991. During the 1989 David Oistrach Competion in Odessa he made the acquaintance of Zakhar Bron and consequently studied with him in Novosibirsk and Lübeck.
In 1991 Kirill Kobantschenko came to Vienna and began studies at the Vienna College of Music. He met Boris Kuschnir in 1992 and since that time studied with him at the Vienna Conservatory.
Since 2001, Kirill has been engaged in the first violin section of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and, since 2004 has been a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. In addition to his intensive orchestral activities, Kirill is active as a chamber musician and in 2008 founded the Plattform K+K Vienna, of which he is also the director. He is also involved with electronic music and works as a DJ.
