Charlotte BalzereitAnneleen Lenaerts
Charlotte Balzereit received her first harp instruction at the age of seven from Jutta Kerber. In 1991 she continued her musical education with Prof. Helga Storck at the College of Music in Munich and in 2000/01 she also studied in the class of Prof. Isabelle Moretti at the Paris Conservatory Supérieur.
In addition to the many first prizes she has obtained at the national competition "Jugend musiziert," she won the international Harp Competition at Lyon (1991), in Paris (1993) and in Vienna (1996) as well as the first prize at the Competition of the German Colleges of Music (2000). Her exceptional accomplishments have been acknowledged with the "President's Prize" of the College of Music in Munich as well as in the city of Seesen where she was awarded the Spohr Medal in 2003.
At the age of 18 Charlotte Balzereit received an engagement with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and since September 2001 she has a contract as principal harpist with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and has been a member of the Vienna Philharmonic since 2004. In addition to a busy chamber music career, with such ensembles as the "Trio Charolca", she has appeared as soloist at home and abroad., performing at festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Ludwigsburg, the Rheingau Festival and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. She has also given debut concerts as a rising star in cities such as New York, Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, London and Birmingham. She has appeared as soloist with the Braunschweig State Orchestra, the Northwest German Philharmonie, the North German Radio Philharmonie Hannover, the Rheinland-Pfalz State Philharmonie, the Camerata St. Petersburg, the Magdeburg Philharmonie, the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Erfurt Theater and the Cappella Istropolitana. A highlight of her career was a tour as soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Zubin Mehta.
Charlotte Balzereit has been a lecturer at the Pacific Music Festival and the Rheinland-Pfalz Music Academy and given numerous master classes. She taught at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg from 2007-2009. In 2001 she recorded her first solo CD, "Fantasies for Harp" and performed the sonatas by F.A. Rosetti on a historical harp.
