On October 25, 2010, the Vienna Philharmonic appeared for the eighth time at the "Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra". For an audience of more than four thousand people in the Basilica San Paolo fuori le mura in Rome, Andrís Nelsons conducted Joseph Haydn's "Drum Roll" Symphony, Hob. I:103, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony in B-flat Major, KV 319; as well as the prelude to the first act of Richard Wagner's opera "Parsifal".
On the next day in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the ninth "Concert for the Republic" was given. Under the baton of Andrís Nelsons, the Hungarian Dances Nos. 19-21 by Johannes Brahms; Henri Tomasi's Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra, with Dietmar Küblböck as soloist, and the Symphony No. 9 in E minor ("From the New World") by Antonín Dvořák were performed. This concert was particularly noteworthy because it was the last such presentation within the framework of the contract with the Austrian federal government which the Vienna Philharmonic signed in the year 2000.
