Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Vienna Philharmonic performed an all Schubert program in Vienna and Berlin.
Following rehearsals and shortly before the scheduled weekend of the first subscription concert with Ingo Metzmacher two additional concerts took place.

On June 14 and 15, 2014, Daniel Barenboim conducted two quite diverse concert programs.
The Vienna Philharmonic performed for the eleventh time in the park of Schönbrunn Palace on May 29, 2014. In spite of hefty rainfall in the afternoon and cooler temperatures in the evening, 43,000 people attended the traditional "Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn", which presented an homage to Richard Strauss, who was born on June 11, 1864.
Concerts were performed in Prague, Baden-Baden and Leipzig betweem May 22 and 24, 2014.
The program for the 4th Philharmonic Soirée on May 12, 2014, in which Riccardo Muti conducted Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's 4th Symphony and the "Messe solennelle" of Hector Berlioz, was also presented in two concerts in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein on May 10/11 for the opening of the Vienna Festival.

At the invitation of Daniel Barenboim, the Vienna Philharmonic made an appearance for the first time at Berlin's Easter Festival on April 22, 2014, performing Wolfgang Mozart's Symphonies in E-flat major, KV543, G minor, KV 550 and C major, KV551 ("Jupiter") in the Philharmonie.
On April 6, 2014, the Vienna Philharmonic gave a performance of Anton Bruckner's Eighth Symphony.
