Concerts in June 2020

We are very pleased that our concert activity will once again resume on June 5, 2020, with individual concerts performed before small audiences in the Musikverein. Due to official regulations, the number of visitors is extremely limited (with a maximum of 100 people in the audience) and there will therefore be no public sale of tickets. It is very important for our orchestra to once again appear on the concert stage together and perform for our audiences.

We will play three series of concerts with Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti und Franz Welser-Möst, conductors with whom the orchestra enjoys close artisitc partnerships.

In the past three months, we have attempted to stay positive and take steps which have appeared to us beneficial for the resumption of concert activity. By conducting tests and sharing the results with other interested orchestras and decision makers, we hope to help pave the way for the return of normal concert activity.

For the upcoming Philharmonic concerts there will be no sale of tickets. The small contingent of tickets will go to family members and supporters who have accompanied us through this crisis. In order to make the concerts accessible to a wider audience, they will be made available through radio and television broadcasts, as well as livestreams.

The concert with Maestro Daniel Barenboim will be broadcast on Sunday, June 7, at 9:05 AM in ORF 2. The program is made up of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in B-flat Major, KV 595 and Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, op. 67.

The concert with Franz Welser-Möst will be broadcast on June 21 on ORF III. We are very happy that, in addition to Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 3 in D Major, D 200, the program will include Four Symphonic Interludes from the opera Intermezzo by Richard Strauss. The orchestra maintains a very close artistic partnership with Franz Welser-Möst in the interpretation of the music of Richard Strauss.
