Lorin Maazel Conducts in Wien und Budapest

Lorin Maazel, who on May 24/25, 2008 returned to the Philharmonic subscription series for the first time since 2002, conducted the 2nd Symphony of Johannes Brahms as well as the Concert Piece for Violoncello and Orchestra, D Major, by Ernst von Dohnányi, featuring principal cellist Robert Nagy as soloist, on May 26 in the Konzerthaus. Also included on the program were Zoltán Kodálys popular "Dances from Galánta". This same program was repeated the next day in Budapest (with Brahms' Hungarian Dances Nos. 1 and 5 performed as encores) and once again on May 29th, for the 5th Philharmonic Soirée.
