Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival 2009

The Vienna Philharmonic, in its 85th year of participation in the Salzburg Festival, played 25 opera performances and gave 11 concerts in the summer of 2009.

July 26/28 – Large Festival Hall
Franz Schubert: Six German Dances D 820 (arranged by Anton Webern);Josef Strauss: Frauenherz, Polka mazur op. 166; Josef Strauss: Delirien-Walzer, op. 212; Josef Strauss: Pêle-mêle, Fast Polka, op. 161; Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 8 C Major, D 944 The concert was recorded for audio/video media.

August 9/10 – Large Festival Hall
Alban Berg: Three Pieces from the Lyric Suite for String Orchester; Five Orchestral Songs after Postcard Texts by Peter Altenberg, op. 4 (Soloist: Angela Denoke, Soprano); Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 6, A major. Conductor: Esa-Pekka Salonen.

August 13/15/16 – Large Festival Hall
Edgard Varèse: Arcana; Franz Liszt: A Faust Symphony (Michael Schade, Tenor; Concert Formation of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Thomas Lang). Conductor: Riccardo Muti.

August 21/22 – Large Festival Hall
Robert Schumann: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, A Minor, op. 54 (Soloist: Clemens Hagen); Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 9, D minor. Conductor: Franz Welser-Möst.

August 27/29 – Large Festival Hall
Peter I. Tchaikovsky: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, D Major op. 35 (Soloist: Nikolai Znaider); Igor Stravinsky: Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring). Conductor: Gustavo Dudamel.

30. July 30, August 3/7/11/15/17/21/23/26. – Haus für Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: "Così fan tutte" (New production). Conductor: Adam Fischer. The premiere weas broadcast was broadcast time-delayed by the Austrian Broadcasting Co.

August 2/6/9/14 – Felsenreitschule
Luigi Nono: "Al gran sole carico d’amore" (New production). Conductor: Ingo Metzmacher.

August 8/11/18/20/23/25 – Large Festival Hall
Gioacchino Rossini: "Moïse et Pharaon ou Le Passage de la Mer Rouge" (New production). Conductor: Riccardo Muti.

August 12/16/19/22/24/29. – Haus für Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: "Le nozze di Figaro" (repeat production). Conductor: Daniel Harding.
