As is customary, numerous youth activities took place this past summer under the patronage and organization of the Vienna Philharmonic. In July, the "International Music Forum Trenta" for strings, which was initiated by Alfred Staar (1938-2000) and is supported by the Bank Austria, took place in Slovenia for the tenth time. Volkhard Steude, Elmar Landerer, Wolfgang Herzer and Peter Götzel instructed 21 young musicians in violin, viola, cello and chamber music. The obligatory concluding concert took place in the Brahmssaal of the Musikverein before a large audience on October 2, 2009.
This year for the 15th time, Professor Wolfgang Schuster organized the "International Orchestra Institute Attergau" for 69 students from 17 different nations. Instructors Helmut Zehetner, Daniel Froschauer, Hans Peter Ochsenhofer, Robert Nagy, Wolfgang Tomböck, Günter Högner, Hans Peter Schuh, Karl Jeitler and Kurt Prihoda prepared various programs, among which the first opera, Mozart's " Così fan tutte ", was performed under the baton of Sascha Goetzel. At the final concert within the framework of the Salzburg Festival, Mischa Maisky played Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto in D major, Hob. VIIb:1, with Adam Fischer also conducting the Symphony No. 4 of Gustav Mahler.
The "Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic" organized by Professor Gerald Schubert in coordination with the Salzburg Festival in August 2009, was attended by 58 students. Under the tutelage of Rainer Küchl, Daniel Froschauer, Günter Seifert, Erich Schagerl, Milan Sètena, Peter Götzel, Raimund Lissy, Tibor Kovác, Gerald Schubert, René Staar, Heinrich Koll, Tobias Lea, Christian Frohn, Thilo Fechner, Robert Nagy Herbert Mayr, Christoph Wimmer, Ödön Rácz, Walter Auer, Peter Schmidl, Norbert Täubl, Michael Werba, Stepan Turnovsky, Paul Halwax, Anton Mittermayr, Klaus Zauner, Oliver Madas, Benjamin Schmidinger and Thomas Lechner (percussionist, Vienna State Opera Orchestra) the students studied 13 works which were performed in a final marathon concert in the Salzburg University Hall on August 28, 2009.
On August 8, 2009, in Salzburg on the stage for "Jedermann", 71 youths from Salzburg and Tirol participated in what has become a traditional concert, taking place for the fourth time this year, under the auspices of the Salzburg Festival and Professor Gerald Schubert, together with the Salzburger Blasmusikverband. Günter Federsel, Alexander Öhlberger, Ernst Ottensamer, Michael Werba, Lars Michael Stransky, Stephan Haimel, Dietmar Küblböck, Paul Halwax and Roland Altmann rehearsed compositions by Edward Grieg, Friedrich von Flotow, Giuseppe Verdi, as well as by Johann and Josef Strauss, which had been arranged by Anton Sollfelner, Oskar Hackenberger and Siegfried Rundel. This concert, as in the previous years, was conducted by Karl Jeitler.-- Dr. Clemens Hellsberg
