68th Vienna Philharmonic Ball

On January 22, 2009, the Vienna Philharmonic invited the public to attend their 68th Ball in the halls of the Vienna Musikverein. As in 1992 and in 2005, Seiji Ozawa once again conducted the musical opening, this year selecting the "Fledermaus" Overture by Johann Strauss. Karl Jeitler conducted Richard Strauss' "Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare", which was composed for our first ball in 1924. The direction and staging for the ceremonial opening was once again in the capable hand of  Professor Dkfm. Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer, and accomplished with his usual sovereign aplomb. Andreas Großbauer, who for the first time in his new position as ball director was, alongside Eva Angyan, responsible for the organization, could be very satisfied with a thoroughly successful evening.
