On February 12, 2009, Mariss Jansons was awarded the Austrian Honorary Medal of Science and the Arts by Federal Minister Dr. Claudia Schmied.
On January 22, 2009, the Vienna Philharmonic invited the public to attend their 68th Ball in the halls of the Vienna Musikverein.
As part of the 54th Mozart Week of the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Vienna Philharmonic performed three times between January 24 and 31 in the Large Festival Hall in Salzburg.
On January 19, 2009, Eva Angyan, who since 1990 has served as President for the Vienna Philharmonic Ball, was awarded the "Gold Medal of Service to the City of Vienna".
