The 69th Vienna Philharmonic Ball, in which Eva Angyan celebrated her 20th year anniversary as president, took place on January 10, 2010, in the Musikverein and was opened by a notable "debutante". Christoph Eschenbach conducted at the ball for the first time and selected the overture to the operetta "Waldmeister" by Johann Strauss as the festive opening of this ball evening. Karl Jeitler conducted the "Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare" which Richard Strauss composed for the first Philharmonic Ball in 1924. Ball organizer Andreas Großbauer expanded the evening's program with numerous well-acclaimed artistic events, many of which took place in the newer concert halls. Professor Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer was responsible for the thoroughly successful choreography of the dancing couples opening the ball.
