Death of Wolfgang Singer

Wolfgang Singer

Wolfgang Singer, who was born on March 31, 1944 in Neunkirchen in Lower Austria, made the decision after finishing middle school to make a career in music. He consequently studied trombone at the Vienna Music Academy with Johann Bauer and Franz Bahner, both of whom were long-time members of the trombone section of the Vienna Philharmonic. In 1967, Wolfgang Singer was engaged as principal trombonist of the Vienna Symphony, performing in this capacity for six seasons. On September 1, 1973, he moved to the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, where his brother, Walter Singer, had already been employed in the trumpet section since 1968. In September 1975, Wolfgang Singer joined the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle as well and, as of March 1, 1977, he became a member of the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic, where he was a member of the trombone section until his retirement on September 1, 1998.
