86th Vienna Philharmonic Season at the Salzburg Festival

The Vienna Philharmonic performed 11 concerts and 26 operas in July and August 2010 during its 86th season at the Salzburg Festival.

July 26/27 – Large Festival Hall / 50 Years Large Festival Hall
Ludwig van Beethoven: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 4 in G major, op. 58 (Soloist: Daniel Barenboim);
Pierre Boulez: Notations I, VII, IV, III, II;
Anton Bruckner: Te Deum for Soloists, Chorus and Orchestra (Soloists: Dorothea Röschmann, Soprano; Elīna Garanča, Mezzo soprano; Klaus-Florian Vogt, Tenor; René Pape, Bass; Concert Formation Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Thomas Lang).
Conductor: Daniel Barenboim. This concert was televised on ORF 2.

August 8/10– Large Festival Hall
Wolfgang Rihm: Gesungene Zeit – Music for Violin and Orchestra (1991/1992; Soloist: Anne-Sophie Mutter);
Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major, "Romantic".
Conductor: Riccardo Chailly.

August 15/16/17 – Large Festival Hall
Sergei Prokofiev: Ivan the Terrible – Oratorio for Narrator, Alto, Baritone, Chorus and Orchestra, op. 116 (Soloists: Gérard Depardieu, Narrator; Olga Borodina, Mezzo soprano; Ildar Abdrazakov, Bass; Salzburg Festival Children's Chorus; Concert Formation Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Thomas Lang).
Conductor: Riccardo Muti.

August 21/22 – Large Festival Hall
Robert Schumann: Introduction and Allegro appassionato – Concert Piece for Piano and Orchestra in G major, op. 92; Variations in E-flat major for Piano, "Geistervariationen"; Concert-Allegro with Introduction for Piano and Orchestra, D minor, op. 134 (Soloist: Tzimon Barto);
Wolfgang Rihm: Ernster Gesang (1996);
Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 2 in C major, op. 61.
Conductor: Christoph Eschenbach.

Conductor: Bernard Haitink.

Christoph Willibald Gluck: "Orfeo ed Euridice" (New Production).

August 1/4/6/11/14/17 – Felsenreitschule
Alban Berg: "Lulu" (New Production).
Conductor: Marc Albrecht. A recording of this production was televised on August 2nd on ORF 2.
