The Vienna Philharmonic Mourns Georg Straka

Georg Straka

In shock and deep sorrow the Vienna Philharmonic announces the death of its double bass player Georg Straka, who during a concert tour in Japan was killed in an accident on Mt. Fuji on November 3, 2010.

After studying composition at the Vienna College of Music and double bass at the Music University at Graz/Oberschützen under Prof. Johannes Auersperg, Georg Straka, who was born in 1969 in Mödling, near Vienna, began his career as a member of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra. In 1996 Georg Straka became a member of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and in 1999 a member of the Association of the Vienna Philharmonic.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Georg Straka.
