Philharmonic Gold Coin for Two Members

On December 14, 2009, Professor Adolf Holler, trumpeter with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic from 1956 through 1994, was honoured at a celebration of his 80th birthday in the Philharmonic offices at which time he was presented with the large Philharmonic gold coin. One week later, on the occasion of the performance of Franz Schmidt's "Book with Seven Seals" in Linz (reported under Musical Activities) a prominent contemporary of Adolf Holler, who studied with him together at the Vienna Music Academy and also gathered early orchestral experience in the Kurorchester Badgastein, was honored in the same manner. Nikolaus Harnoncourt has been an honorary member of the Vienna Philharmonic since 2004 and is thus also entitled to the customary presentation of the gold coin upon his 80th birthday, a practice established at the introduction of the golden Philharmonic coin some 20 years ago.
