Young People's Concert
Fasten Seat Belts for Bolero

In keeping with the theme of "Fasten Seatbelts for - BOLERO", 1580 youngsters between the ages of 10 and 14 took off with the Vienna Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel on an unusual musical journey on September 23rd. After checking in at the Vienna Konzerthaus, the students learned in various stopovers how Leonard Bernstein came to be a musicican, what waltzes, blues, and samba sound like and which popular dances were "hip" when Bernstein was young.

One of those, the "Turkey Trot" from the Divertimento for Orchestra, the students were able to try out themselves right then and there under the guidance of their flight attendant Hanne Muthspiel-Payer, music educator of the Vienna Philharmonic.

The final destination and certainly the highlight of the trip was "Bolero", which in early years made a great impression on the young Bernstein - as it also did on the youthful visitors in attendance at this concert.

Family Concert in Lucerne

The Vienna Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel performed the same Young People's Concert program as a Concert for Families within the framework of the Lucerne Festival on September 18th.
