Special Concert with the 'Blasmusikjugend'

The Salzburg Festival presented a "Special Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic together with the 'Blasmusikjugend' " for the sixth time in the Felsenreitschule on August 21, 2011, which is traditionally composed of half of the 70 youths coming from Salzburg with the other half being invited from another Austrian province. This year's participants from Vorarlberg were augmented by guests from Lichtenstein. Günter Federsel, Alexander Öhlberger, Hannes Moser (clarinet, Stage Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera), Michael Werba, Lars Michael Stransky, Jürgen Pochhacker (trumpet, Vienna State Opera Orchestra), Markus Pichler (trombone, Stage Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera) Paul Halwax and Roland Altmann served as instructors. The artistic director was, as usual, Karl Jeitler. The program consisted of arrangements of works by Hector Berlioz (Hungarian March from the Opera "La damnation de Faust"), Carl Maria von Weber (Melodies from the Opera "Der Freischütz"), Franz von Suppé (Overture to the Opera "Die schöne Galathée"), Josef Strauss ("Die tanzende Muse". Polka Mazurka), Philipp Fahrbach, Jr. ("Im Kahlenbergerdörfel", Polka francaise), Johann Strauss ("Rosen aus dem Süden", Waltz), Eduard Strauß ("Mit Chic", Fast polka), as well as the traditional march of Vorarlberg, "Unter'm Montafonbanner" by Erich Hendl.  The encores were "Rainer March" by Hans Schmid and the fast polka "Vergnügungszug" by Johann Strauss.
