Mariss Jansons conducting theNew Year's Concert 2006
Since 2003, Mariss Jansons has been Principal Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 2004 became Principal Conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra as well. From 1979 until 2000 he was Principal Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, an ensemble which he formed into an orchestra of considerable international renown. Mariss Jansons has also had a long association with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. From 1992 to 1997 he was Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic and from 1997 to 2004 he was Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. 2012 will be the second appearance for Mariss Jansons as conductor of the New Year's Concert. His first New Year's Concert in 2006 was widely acclaimed by both audiences and the media.
It is the desire of the Philharmonic not only to provide musically definitive interpretations of the masterworks of this genre, but at the same time, as musical ambassadors of Austria, to send people all over the world a New Year's greeting in the spirit of hope, friendship and peace.Program of the New Year's Concert 2012Program (PDF)
