Death of Kammersängerin Sena Jurinac

On October 24, 2011, Kammersängerin Sena Jurinac celebrated her 90th birthday, and only a few weeks later, on November 22nd, she died in her home in Hainhofen  in Bavaria.

This great artist, who in 1945 made her debut as Cherubino in Mozart's "Le Nozze de Figaro" at the Vienna State Opera and who, between 1946 and 1959, made eleven appearances in concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic, and in numerous operatic roles made an enduring impression not only on countless music lovers, but also on several generations of Philharmonic musicians.

It was therefore a gesture full of deep symbolism, when, on November 1, 2001, as part of a ceremony held by the Association of Friends of the Vienna State Opera, she was honoured with the presentation of the "Silver Rose" of the Vienna Philharmonic as an expression of gratitude for all the unforgettable moments she had given us.
