80th birthday of Professor Wolfram Görner

Prof. Wolfram Görner

The 80th birthday of Professor Wolfram Görner, a double bass player in the Philharmonic from 1963 to 1996, was celebrated on May 13, 2011, in the offices of the Vienna Philharmonic. Alongside his orchestral work, Wolfram Görner served from 1984 as the librarian of our music archives, changing in 1985 to become the director of the Historical Archives, a position in which he has been since then regularly confirmed by the orchestra, even after his retirement in 1996. As part of this small celebration, attended by numerous orchestra members as well as Prof. Dr. Otto Biba of the Society of the Friends of Music in Vienna, and Peter Poltun, librarian of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, Professor Görner's service to the orchestra was recognized. Professor Görner, who comes from a Philharmonic family including his father, Theodor Görner, who between 1923 and 1959 belonged to the viola section and his uncle, Erich Görner, who from 1941 to 1967 was a member of the double bass section, was presented with the large, gold "Philharmonic" coin.
