Concerts with Riccardo Muti

On May 6, 2012, in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the Vienna Philharmonic performed the opening concert of the Vienna Festival Weeks under the baton of Riccardo Muti. For the occasion of the bicentennial of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna, the program consisted of works which are closely associated with the history of this institution. The choir of the Musikverein, prepared by Johannes Prinz, sang two cantatas by Antonio Salieri, who was a founding member of the society, and Hans Peter Schuh performed Joseph Haydn's Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra in E-flat major, Hob. VIIe:1, the manuscript for which is found in the world famous archives of the society. The second half of the program was comprised of the Symphony in C major, D 944, by Franz Schubert, who dedicated this work to the society. The program was repeated on May 7, 2012, as part of the series "Meisterinterpreten III".
