Student Presentation of a Russian Legend

Student Music Project
Photos: Sebastian Philipp

For three months, 70 students from Vienna's 15th district busied themselves with an interdisciplinary music education project centered around Rimksy-Korsakov's "Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh". Melodies, rhythms, sounds and the programmatic content of the composition made a strong impression and became the basis for original music, scenes, texts and pictures developed by the students themselves.

A team of music pedagogues with specialties in concert, theater and dance was involved and five members of the Philharmonic combined the students' elements with the memorable original themes of Rimksy-Korsakov. The highlights were two musical presentations which took place in the Glass Hall of the Musikverein before the 6th subscription concerts. In the words of the students involved, "The Kitezh project was cool!"
