Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn 2012

Summer Night Concert 2012

The annual Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn took place under ideal weather conditions on June 7, 2012. Schönbrunn Palace and its beautiful baroque gardens, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, provided the unique backdrop for this musical gift to the Viennese population as well as all visitors to the city. For the first time, the Summer Night Concert was conducted by the charismatic young star from Venezuela, Gustavo Dudamel.

Under the theme of "Dances and Waves", the Philharmonic performed compositions by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Borodin, Debussy, Strauss and Ponchielli. As encores, Johann Strauss' waltz "Wiener Blut" and the Intermezzo from "La boda de Luis Alonso" by Gerónimo Giménez were played.

This year the Summer Night Concert once again presented dancing by the Association of the Vienna State Opera Ballet and the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera to choreography by Gregor Hatala. One of the three dance numbers took place on a specially constructed water stage in the pond in front of the Gloriette.

The high definition television broadcast by the ORF was also transmitted to over 60 countries, allowing classical music lovers around the world to experience this major concert event.
