Prof. Reinhard Öhlberger
The 2nd concert in the Vienna Philharmonic Chamber Music Series 2014/15 in the Vienna State Opera was given on Saturday, October 25th, 2014. In the Mahlersaal of the Vienna State Opera, Principal violist Heinrich Koll along with his two daughters Alexandra (Violin, Vienna Symphony) and Patricia (Violin, Vienna State Opera Orchestra) - appropriately named the "Koll Trio" - were joined by Robert Nagy (Principal Cello) for a concert which opened with Joseph Haydn's Baryton Trio No. 8 for Violin, Viola and Cello. Here it is interesting to note that the baryton was an instrument very similar to the cello, but was played with six instead of four strings. The instrument was particularly favored by Prince Nikolaus Joseph Eszterházy. Next on the program was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's String Quartet in C major, KV465, known as the "Dissonance Quartet", which was followed by the String Quartet in F major by Antonín Dvořák, as well as his "American String Quartet, which immediately follows the "New World Symphony" in the opus listing.
