Prof. Reinhard Öhlberger
One of the many endeavours undertaken by the Vienna Philharmonic to heighten the interest of young people in the important area of music is, in addition to the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy, the Orchestra Institute Attergau and the Vienna Musikgymnasium, of which the orchestra has taken over patronage, the professional musical education project "passwort:klassik". Hanne Muthspiel-Payer and her team, as well as Nicola Kahlig, who is responsible for organization, have created a valuable program with a broad range of activities.
This is apparent in the summer projects held during the time of the Salzburg Festival, where workshops based on the operas currently in production take place. Under the title of "Opera Camp", young people experience what it is like to immerse themselves into the atmosphere of operatic productions with the opportunity to contribute their own creative ideas, along with those of their peers, to present on stage their own version of these operas.
Music Education activities are also woven throughout the entire season's concert program. Key words such as "passwort:klassik" are used to interest young audiences and relieve any possible misgivings as far as coming in contact with higher cultural endeavours.
