Prof. Reinhard Öhlberger
A major event for the entertainment industry which was carried out locally could not go by without a musical salute from the Vienna Philharmonic. The Eurovision Song Contest, with its main event on Saturday, May 23, 2015, was augmented by a musical greeting form our orchestra. With the backdrop of the Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn, the concert shell in front of the Neptune Fountain on the palace grounds, three short works were performed. Following the the Eurovision Fanfare, the first bars of the Prelude to the "Te Deum" by Marc-Antoine Charpentier were heard. This was followed by a short section from the beginning of the overture to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and lastly a section from the "Ode to Joy" from Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which has become the European Hymn.
