≡ Honorary Membership for Herbert Blomstedt
In conjunction with concerts to be performed together in Salzburg, the Vienna Philharmonic has bestowed Honorary Membership on conductor Herbert Blomstedt. The award was presented by Philharmonic Chairman Daniel Froschauer this afternoon. "With Maestro Blomstedt we enjoy an intensive artistic partnership. We are also very close to him personally and grateful for many extraordinary concert experiences."
Herbert Blomstedt first conducted the Vienna Philharmonic in 2011 at the age of 83. Since that time, Blomstedt has conducted the orchestra at subscription concerts, concerts at the Salzburg Festival as well as concert tours in Europe.
Blomstedt stood most recently at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic at a performance of compositions by Berwald and Dvorak in October 2018. In the upcoming Salzburg concerts, he will conduct Mahler's 9th Symphony.
Maestro Blomstedt is very pleased by the award: "This award makes me very proud and grateful. As an Honorary Member of the Vienna Philharmonic, I promise my colleagues that I will in the future listen even better to everything that happens in the orchestra - musically and beyond. I am happy to be a member of this community and look forward to the continuation of our fruitful collaboration".
