It has long been a Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a program consisting of the lively and at the same time nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the family of Johann Strauß and its contemporaries. These concerts not only delight the audiences in the Musikverein in Vienna, but also enjoy great international popularity thanks to the worldwide broadcasts that now reach around 50 million viewers in more than 150 countries via television and streaming.

The international popularity of the New Year's Concert may create the impression that the orchestra's performance of the music of the Strauß dynasty extends back to Johann Strauß Sr., and therefore to the beginning of the orchestra's history.

Ticket Information for the New Year's Concert

Due to extremely high demand, tickets for the three traditional end of year concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic are drawn by lot over this website at the beginning of each year.

The enormous demand exceeds the supply of tickets, which means that we will have to send out many rejections in March in addition to the winning notifications. Even though we understand the disappointment, we would still like to advise strongly against buying concert tickets on ticket platforms or secondary market exchanges at highly inflated prices. We cannot assess the seriousness of these offers.
