Concluding Ceremony for the "Vienna Project"

The "Vienna Project" is a many faceted commemorative project established to provide acknowledgment of the various groups of people who between 1938 and 1945 were victime of persecution and murder at the hands of the National Socialists in Austria. The president and artistic director of this initiative is Prof. Dr. Karen Frostig, who developed the concept for the project. This project began in October 2013 and was concluded with a ceremony on October 18, 2014, in the Austrian National Library. Members of the Vienna Philharmonic provided the musical backdrop for this event. Between individual speeches, Dieter Flury (Flute), Herbert Maderthaner (Oboe), Matthias Schorn (Clarinet), and Benedikt Dinkhauser (Bassoon) performed music by Erwin Schulhoff (three movements from the "Divertissement" for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon, 1927); Charles Köechlin (Méditation sur la Douleur Humaine" for Solo Flute, 1944); Olivier Messiaen ("Ahime des Oiseaux" from the "Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps" for Solo Clarinet, 1940); Ernst Krenek (2nd and 3rd movements from the "Sonatina for Flute and Clarinet", 1942); and, in conclusion, Johann Sebastian Bach ("Allemande" from the "Partita in A minor, BMV 1013, for Solo Flute).
