Biography

Julian Ritsch was born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1999 and received his first trumpet instruction at the age of seven at various music schools in Tyrol. While attending high school in Innsbruck, he studied at the Tyrolean State Conservatory with Prof. Andreas Lackner. He transferred to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in October 2019, where he has since been a student of Prof. Johann Plank.

Julian Ritsch gathered his first orchestral experience as a member of various youth orchestras such as the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. He has also been a substitute with the Vienna Symphony, Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, and orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper. From December 2021 until June 2022, he held a fixed-term engagement as a trumpet player with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra.

During his studies in Innsbruck and Vienna, Julian Ritsch developed an interest in the baroque trumpet and the interpretation of early music, which led to performances with prominent ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Vienna, Les Cornets Noirs, and the Breslau Baroque Orchestra.

Julian Ritsch is also a member of the brass quintet R.E.T. Chamber Brass, with which he has been a prizewinner at various national and international competitions.
