In Memory of Honorary Member Pierre Boulez

With the death of Pierre Boulez, the Vienna Philharmonic has lost not only a great master, but also an Honorary Member of our Philharmonic family.

He will always remain in my memory as a sophisticated personality with quiet self-confidence. He elucidated his compositions for us with great patience and gracious authenticity. With Pierre Boulez, even the most complex compositions were transformed into transparently whirring and precise clockwork.

His respectful und serious handling of the compositions of the great masters and the recollection of many joint musical highlights, which in some cases have been preserved through recordings, will remain in our memory with much gratitude.
