Summer Night Concert 2023
The Vienna Philharmonic is pleased to announce the program of the Summer Night Concert 2023 and provide additional information about this event.
The Summer Night Concert 2023 will take place in the Schönbrunn Palace Park on June 8, 2023, at 08:30 PM.
This year the concert will be conducted for the first time by Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the soloist will be Elīna Garanča, who will sing three arias from Georges Bizet's Carmen, Charles Gounod's Sapho and Camille Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila.
"The program of this year's Summer Night Concert will focus on works from French Romanticism to Impressionism. Also featured for the first time will be a composition by Lili Boulanger - a moving depiction of nature by the young composer who became the first female winner of the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1913. We will dedicate the performance of this composition to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was signed 75 years ago and strengthened 30 years ago, at the Vienna World Conference on Human Rights through a concrete action program. A clear commitment to human rights is more important today than ever," says Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic.
The program will consist of the following compositions:
1. Georges Bizet, Suite No. 1 from Carmen (Arrangement attributed to Ernest Guiraud 1885)
No. 5. Les Toréadors (Introduction to Act I)
No. 2. Intermezzo (Prelude to Act III)
No. 1a. Aragonaise (Prelude to Act IV)
2. Georges Bizet, Habanera “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” from Carmen
3. Lili Boulanger, D‘un matin de printemps. Version for orchestra 1918
