Vienna Festival Week Concert with Simon Rattle

On Thursday, May 28, 2015, the Vienna Philharmonic's 6th Subscription Concert, which had featured a program conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, was performed once more in the Vienna Konzerthaus as a Vienna Festival Week concert. The program contained a work by the Canadian composer Claude Vivier, "Lonely Child", for soprano and orchestra. Barbara Hannigan was the soprano soloist and thus not only appeared for the first time with the Vienna Philharmonic, but also made her debut in the Vienna Musikverein.

Following the intermission a composition was performed that Sir Simon had arranged entitled "An Imaginary Symphony", which utilizes music from the compositions of Joseph Haydn. Contained in this "Pasticcio", one can identify excerpts from "The Creation", and the "Seven Last Words of Christ", as well as sections from the Symphonies Nos. 45, 64 and 90.
