In conjunction with joint concerts to be performed at the Salzburg Festival in 2019, the Vienna Philharmonic has voted to name Maestro Herbert Blomstedt an Honorary Member of the orchestra.

The award will be presented by Vienna Philharmonic Chairman Daniel Froschauer at the end of July 2019.

Herbert Blomstedt first conducted the Vienna Philharmonic in 2011. Since that time, Blomstedt has conducted the orchestra at subscription concerts, concerts at the Salzburg Festival as well as concert tours in Europe.

Blomstedt stood most recently at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic in summer of 2017 at the Salzburg Festival in a performance of pieces from Berwald and Dvorak. In the upcoming summer, also in Salzburg, he will conduct Mahler's 9th symphony.
