Maestro Bernard Haitink was presented honorary membership in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra today during rehearsals for the forthcoming joint concerts at the Salzburg Festival 2019. The award was presented by orchestral chairman Daniel Froschauer.

"This honorary membership is an expression of our deep and long-standing artistic ties. We look back with pleasure upon many great moments together," says Daniel Froschauer.

Maestro Haitink first performed with the Philharmonic in 1972. Since that time he has conducted the Vienna Philharmonic more than 100 times; in subscription concerts, in concerts and operas at the Salzburg Festival and in guest performances in the US, Japan and Europe.

Haitink's final concerts on the podium of the Vienna Philharmonic, featuring Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto and Bruckner's Seventh Symphony, will take place at the end of August in Salzburg, and at the beginning of September at the Proms in London and the Lucerne Festival.

Bernard Haitink will then end his active conducting career after 65 years.
