Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert for the first time on January 1, 2026.

The Vienna Philharmonic eagerly anticipates this debut with Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Chairman Professor Daniel Froschauer emphasizes the conductor’s artistic significance for the orchestra: “Our collaboration with Yannick Nézet-Séguin began in 2010 at the Mozart Week in Salzburg. Since then, a close artistic partnership has developed, cultivated through numerous concerts in Vienna, Salzburg, and on tour. An unforgettable highlight was the 2023 Summer Night Concert under his baton.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin is among our most important artistic partners. Together, we have designed a spirited and multifaceted program for the 2026 New Year’s Concert, featuring works by members of the Strauss dynasty, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Joseph Lanner, Franz von Suppè and Hans-Christian Lumbye, as well as Josephine Weinlich and Florence Price. This year’s program includes five New Year's Concert premieres.”

The New Year's Concert is broadcast worldwide in over 150 countries via TV and stream and is watched by around 50 million viewers.

Florence Price (*1887 in Little Rock, Arkansas; † 1953 in Chicago, Illinois), composer, pianist, organist and music teacher

Music speaks when words fail

Out of deep sorrow and solidarity, this year’s Summer Night Concert will open with the "Air" by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Following this, we will observe a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the attack in Graz. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy.

The program has been changed due to the current situation.

The 22nd Summer Night Concert will take place in the Schönbrunn Palace Park on June 13, 2025, at 8:45 PM.

For the first time this year's concert will be conducted by Maestro Tugan Sokhiev and features as vocal soloist the opera singer Piotr Beczała, who will perform three arias – from Georges Bizet's Carmen, Giacomo Puccini's Turandot and Emmerich Kálmán's operetta Gräfin Mariza. For the first time, the Vienna Boys Choir will participate in the Summer Night Concert. 

According to Vienna Philharmonic Daniel Froschauer, “The concept of presenting classical music to the widest possible audience as a gift to music enthusiasts everywhere has characterized this event since its inception. The focus of this year's program is on well-known melodies from opera and operetta that lead us on a musical journey through various European landscapes und milieus. This year we dedicate Otto Nicolai's Overture to the Opera "The Merry Wives of Windsor" to the 25th anniversary of Vienna's Haus der Musik. There, in the former residence of our orchestra's founder, Otto Nicolai, the Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Historical Archives of the Vienna Philharmonic were relocated in the year 2000. Since that time, we have enjoyed a close and important partnership with the Haus der Musik."

As always, all interested viewers can experience the Summer Night Concert 2025 by way of the television broadcast or internet livestream.

The ORF will broadcast the concert live, time-delayed, beginning at 9:20 PM in ORF 2.
