The Vienna Philharmonic in Salzburg 2011

At the Salzburg Festival 2011 under the management of Markus Hinterhäuser, the Vienna Philharmonic participated with ten concerts and 25 opera performances.

July 28/31 – Large Festival Hall
Alban Berg: Lulu Suite (Soloist: Anna Prohaska, Soprano); Der Wein (Soloist: Dorothea Röschmann, Soprano); Gustav Mahler: Das klagende Lied (Dorothea Röschmann, Soprano; Anna Larsson, Alto; Johan Botha, Tenor; Concert Formation Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Jörn H. Andresen). Conductor: Pierre Boulez. The concert was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Leo Kirch, the founder of UNITEL, and was recorded by UNITEL CLASSICA as a co-production with ZDF and ARTE and was broadcast by ARTE on July 31st.

August 7/8 – Large Festival Hall
Richard Strauss: Four Songs for Soprano snd Orchestra ("Befreit", op. 39/4; "Winterliebe, op. 48/5; "Traum durch die Dämmerung", op. 29/1; "Gesang der Apollopriesterin", op. 33/2); Closing Scene from Act 1 of the Opera "Arabella" (Soloist: Renée Fleming, Soprano); An Alpine Symphony, op. 64. Conductor: Christian Thielemann. This concert was recorded by UNITEL CLASSICA.

August 14/15 – Large Festival Hall
Giuseppe Verdi: Messa da Requiem (Krassimira Stoyanova, Soprano; Olga Borodina, Mezzosoprano; Saimir Pirgu, Tenor; Ildar Abdrazakov, Bass; Concert Formation Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Thomas Lang). Conductor: Riccardo Muti.

August 20/21 – Large Festival Hall
Igor Stravinsky: Petroushka; Franz Liszt: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in E-flat major (Soloist: Lang Lang); Maurice Ravel: La Valse. Conductor: Mariss Jansons.

August 25/27 – Large Festival Hall
Franz Schubert: String Quartet in D minor, D 810, "Death and the Maiden" (Version for String Orchestra by Gustav Mahler); Alexander Zemlinsky: Lyric Symphony, op. 18 (Christine Schäfer, Soprano; Michael Volle, Baritone). Conductor: Franz Welser-Möst.

July 29, August 1, 4, 11, 14, 17, 21 – Large Festival Hall
Richard Strauss: "Die Frau ohne Schatten" (New Production). Conductor: Christian Thielemann. The premiere was recorded by UNITEL CLASSICA in co-operation with ORF/3sat and broadcast time-delayed by 3sat on Juli 29th.

August 3, 6, 9, 12, 16, 19, 22, 24 – Felsenreitschule
Giuseppe Verdi: "Macbeth" (New Production). Conductor: Riccardo Muti.

August 10, 13, 18, 25, 30 – Large Festival Hall
Leoš Janáček: "Věc Makropulos" ("The Makropulos Affair" – New Production). Conductor: Esa-Pekka Salonen. The production was recorded by UNITEL CLASSICA.

August 18, 20, 23, 27, 29 – Haus für Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: "Don Giovanni" (New Production). Conductor: Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
