Exhibition in Japan

In commemoration of the bicentennial of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna, an exhibition created by Archives Director Professor Dr. Otto Biba and Dr. Ingrid Fuchs entitled "450 Years of European and Japanese Musical Relationships" was held from October 6 - 13, 2012, in the small auditorium (Blue Rose) of Suntory Hall.

The exhibit was supported by Daiwa House, the co-sponsor of the Vienna Philharmonic Weeks in Japan in 2009 and 2010, and was augmented by numerous lectures on the part of both curators as well as several "salon concerts" given by members of the Vienna Philharmonic. On October 7, 8, and 9, concertmaster Volkhard Steude and Clemens Hellsberg performed duets for two violins by Luigi Boccherini (G major, op. 5/1) and Lois Spohr (D major, op. 67/2), as well as the Sonata for Violins and Piano in A-Major by César Frank with Iku Miwa on piano.  On October 10, Daniel Froschauer, Gerhard Marschner, Bernhard Naoki Hedenborg, Michael Bladerer, Daniel Ottensamer, Herald Müller and Wolfgang Vladar played Ludwig van Beethoven's Septet in E-flat major, op. 20, as well as Franz Schubert's Octet in F major, D 803,  with Dominik Hellsberg. This program was repeated two days later in the large auditorium of Suntory Hall as part of a young persons' concert.
