In July and August 2012, the Vienna Philharmonic once again took part in the Salzburg Festival, performing ten concerts and 23 opera evenings.
July 29/30 - Large Festival HallIgor Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms for Chorus and Orchestra (Concert Formation of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, preparation by Ernst Raffelsberger); Modest Mussorgsky: Songs and Dances of Death (Sergei Semishkur, Tenor); Sergei Prokofieff: Symphony No. 5, B-flat major, op. 100. Conductor: Valery Gergiev.This concert was broadcast live and recorded in cooperation with the ORF and UNITEL CLASSICA.
August 4/5 - Large Festival HallRichard Strauss: Don Juan op. 20; Richard Wagner: "Wesendonck-Lieder", Orchestration by Felix Mottl (Nina Stemme, Soprano); Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 1, C minor, op. 68. Conductor: Mariss Jansons.This concert was recorded and broadcast at a later time as a co-production of the ORF with ZDF/3sat and UNITEL CLASSICA.
August 15/16/17 - Large Festival HallFranz Liszt: "Von der Wiege bis zum Grab"; Les Préludes; Hector Berlioz: Messe solennelle (Julia Kleiter, soprano; Saimir Pirgu, Tenor; Ildar Abdrazakov, Bass; Concert Formation of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, preparation by Ernst Raffelsberger). Conductor: Riccardo Muti.
August 21, 2012 - Mozarteum, Large HallAlban Berg: Chamber Concerto (Alexander Lonquich, Piano; Thomas Zehetmair, Violin); Heinz Holliger: (é)cri(t) for Solo Flute (Walter Auer); pour Roland Cavin for Piccolo, Flute and Alto-Flute (Wolfgang Zuser - Stage Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, Walter Auer, Dieter Flury); Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Serenade in B-flat major, KV 361 ("Gran Partita"). Conductor: Heinz Holliger.Before the concert an introduction was given by Heinz Holliger. Following Berg's Chamber Concerto, Thomas Zehetmaier and Ruth Killius (Viola) performed the world premiere of "From Darkness on a Shadowed Path" for Violin and Viola by Gustav Friedrichsohn, a composition commissioned by the Salzburg Festival.
August 25/27 - Large Festival HallLudwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4, G major, op. 58 (Murray Perahia, Piano); Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 9, D minor. Conductor: Bernard Haitink.

August 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 18 - Large Festival HallGiacomo Puccini: "La Bohème" (New Production - co-production with the Vienna State Opera). Conductor: Daniel Harding.The opera was recorded and broadcast time-delayed by the ORF in co-production with ZDF, NHK and UNITEL CLASSICA.
August 14, 17, 19, 25 - Large Festival HallGeorges Bizet: "Carmen" (Co-Production with the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Theatro Real, Madrid). Conductor: Sir Simon Rattle.
August 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 - FelsenreitschuleBernd Alois Zimmermann: "Die Soldaten" (New Production - co-production with the Teatro alla Scala). Conductor: Ingo Metzmacher.The opera was recorded and broadcast time-delayed by UNITEL CLASSICA in co-production with ZDF/3sat.
