The Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival 2014

As customary every year in July and August, the Vienna Philharmonic once again took part in the Salzburg Festival. Appearing in 2014 for the 90th time, 27 opera performances and 12 concerts were given. The Salzburg Festival engagement in its consistency over time is second only to the orchestra's subscription concert series that began in 1860.

July 23, Large Festival Hall: Max Reger, Requiem op. 144b, "Hebbel-Requiem"; Soloist Placido Domingo. Anton Bruckner, Symphony No. 4, E-flat major, "Romantic". Dirigent: Daniel Barenboim. At the beginning, the orchestra performed the "Maurerische Trauermusik", KV 477, in memory of our Honorary Member Lorin Maazel.

July 26 / 28, Large Festival Hall: Anton Bruckner, Symphony No. 8, C minor.
Herbert Blomstedt stepped in as conductor to replace an indisposed Riccardo Chailly.

August 2 / 3, Large Festival Hall: Anton Bruckner, Symphony No. 2, C minor, and Te Deum, C major. With soloists Olga Peretyatko, Sophie Rennert, Pavol Breslik, Tobias Kehrer and the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, Preparation: Ernst Raffelsberger; Conductor: Phiippe Jordan.

August 15 / 16 / 17, Large Festival Hall: Franz Schubert, Symphony No. 4 C minor, D 417, "Tragic"; Anton Bruckner, Symphony No. 6, A major. Conductor: Riccardo Muti. These concerts were performed in memory of the 25th anniversary of the death of Herbert von Karajan.

August 23 / 24, Large Festival Hall: Richard Strauss, Death and Transfiguration, op. 24; René Staar, Time Recycling op. 22n (2014); Richard Strauss, Also sprach Zarathustra op. 30. Conductor: Gustavo Dudamel.

August 28 / 29, Large Festival Hall: Wolfgang A. Mozart, Konzert für Klavier und Orchester c-Moll KV 491; Anton Bruckner, Symphonie Nr. 3 d-Moll. Mit dem Solisten Lang Lang und Dirigenten Daniele Gatti.

July 27 / 30, August 3 / 6 / 12 / 15 / 18, Haus für Mozart: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Don Giovanni. New Produktion under the stage direction of Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Conductor: Christoph Eschenbach

August 1 / 5 / 8 / 11 / 14 / 17 / 20 / 23, Large Festival Hall:
Richard Strauss, Der Rosenkavalier. New Produktion under the stage direction of Harry
Kupfer. Conductor: Franz Welser-Möst
