6th Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Chamber Music Series

The 6th Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Chamber Music Series at the Vienna State Opera took place in the Gustav Mahler Hall on Saturday, March 14, 2015. An ensemble sine nomine with Rainer Honeck and Wilfried Hedenborg (violins), Tobias Lea and Sebastian Führlinger (violas), Sebastian Bru and Bernhard Naoki Hedenborg (violincellos) performed together with Margarita Gritskova (mezzo soprano).

Following the sextet introduction to "Capriccio", the "conversation piece with music" by Richard Strauss, the Wesendonck Lieder by Richard Wagner were performed in an arrangement for voice and string quartet by Christophe Looten. These were followed by "Maiblumen blühen überall" for voice and string sextet by Alexander Zemlinsky. Following the intermission, Arnold Schönberg's  string quartet "Verklärte Nacht" op. 4 was performed. Both Zemlinsky's and Schönberg's works were based on poems by Richard Dehmel (1863-1920), providing the programmatic linkage for these compositions.
