Concert with Daniel Barenboim in Berlin
A concert program which had previously been prepared in October 2014 with Daniel Barenboim for the 2nd Subscription Concert s on November 1 & 2, 2014, was repeated on a brief visit to Berlin on March 27, 2015. Three pieces by Pierre Boulez were performed in the Berliner Philharmonie in honor of that composer's 90th Birthday, which had occurred on the day before (March 26th), This special anniversary was commemorated by the "Livre pour cordes (1968); "Mémoriale", and "....exposante fixe...originel", both of which featured Karl Heinz Schütz as flute soloist. The 8th Symphony ("Great C major"), D 944, by Franz Schubert concluded the program. Unfortunately, the honored composer, conductor and great protagonist of new music, who is also a dear friend of our orchestra, was unable to attend due to ill health.
The crash of the German Wings airplane over the French Alps on March 24th was commemorated by the Air of Johann Sebastian Bach which was performed before the official beginning of the concert.
