It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of our dear friend and honorary member, Maestro Herbert Blomstedt.

Throughout our many years of musical collaboration, Maestro Blomstedt touched us not only with his extraordinary musicianship and profound understanding of music, but also with his warmth, kindness and wonderful sense of humour.

Vienna Philharmonic Chairman Professor Daniel Froschauer pays tribute to him:

“The news of the passing of our honorary member Herbert Blomstedt fills us with profound sadness. Until the very end, we had hoped to celebrate his 100th birthday with a concert together.

We will cherish the memories of our many performances together, which were marked by his profound musical understanding, his warmth and his wonderful sense of humour.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family.”

We will remember Maestro Blomstedt with deep gratitude and affection. His musical legacy and the memories of our time together will remain with us.
