On the death of Alfred Brendel

We are deeply saddened by the death of our honorary member Alfred Brendel, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. We are left with the memory of numerous extraordinary and touching concert experiences.
"We enjoyed a very close artistic partnership with Alfred Brendel for decades. In 1998, he was awarded honorary membership of the Vienna Philharmonic as a sign of our immense appreciation. We were able to fulfill his wish to play his last public concert with us in 2008 at the Musikverein. He performed W. A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major ("Jenamy Concerto"). We are deeply grateful for many extraordinary, moving concert experiences," said Prof. Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic.
